Anthony Cymerys, an active community volunteer from Windsor has made the national and international news this week. If you did not hear the story, for 25 years he has been offering free haircuts to homeless people in Hartford. Known to all as "Joe the Barber," he only charges a hug. Well, this week city officials told him he needed a permit and not to come back.
Fortunately, Mayor Segarra intervened very quickly and gave Joe special permission to continue this important service.
When Joe stopped by Foodshare today in one of his other volunteer capacities, for the Windsor Food and Fuel Bank, I could not resist giving him a bit of a razzing about his new found celebrity.
