Kids will enjoy our photo booth and face painting, free of charge!

Local Travel Planners Join Forces with Foodshare

Jim and Ann Marie Dooley of JAM Travel Planners LLC are partnering with Foodshare to promote ‘Travel for Good,’an opportunity to cross the Atlantic in support of our neighbors in need. A percentage of the profits will benefit Foodshare and our ongoing work to provide food and support to friends here in Greater Hartford!

You can join the Dooley's on their "Thistle and Shamrock Tour to Scotland and Northern Ireland," September 22-October 5, visiting historical towns along the way, including 19 amazing attractions.

Foodshare's 4th Annual HAT Symposium

Passionate. Energetic. Committed. These three words describe each individual that attended the 4th Annual Foodshare Hunger Action Team (HAT) Symposium on March 23.

A large number of Foodshare staff, partners, and friends gathered at the Chrysalis Training Center in Hartford, to acknowledge the accomplishments of our 20 Hunger Action Teams. Foodshare staff offered encouraging words to all of our Hunger Action Team members, recognizing the incredible work they make possible. One of the highlights was, of course, the keynote speaker—Dr. M. Saud Anwar, a physician and humanitarian from South Windsor, as well as a founding member of the South Windsor Hunger Action Team.

With microphone in hand, Dr. Anwar spoke passionately about health outcomes and the positive effects that come from eating nutritious food.

Guests were inspired by his words, including Community Involvement VISTA, Sarah Hill, who had this to share, "After hearing his outstanding analogies, I personally felt very motivated to change the way that I think about food portions, and how to handle my own health habits." 

Stop & Shop's Our Family Foundation was recognized for their ongoing support of Foodshare's efforts to combat child hunger, through Hunger Action Teams and other vital programs. Representatives from each HAT painted a picture of their own team’s accomplishments over the past year, and offered an update on plans for new possibilities. The symposium culminated in an opportunity for guests to connect with one another during breakout sessions to explore a variety of hunger-related topics, from rescuing healthy food to college food pantries.

Metropolitan AME Zion Church Show of Support

This month, the Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Hartford, held their Christmas Concert to benefit Foodshare. Our President and CEO, James Arena-DeRosa had the opportunity to speak with attendees about our work, sharing how fellow church members could stay involved in fighting hunger here at home.

Thanks to to their overwhelming generosity, we will be able to provide over 3,000 meals for our hungry neighbors this winter and get people connected with longer-term support through programs like SNAP, school breakfast and lunch programs.

Donations Skyrocket on Giving Tuesday

"The 92nd Street Y in New York City, credited for launching the event in 2012, said Wednesday that contributions reported by organizations in the U.S. and abroad for a 24-hour period total $168 million up from about $117 million in 2015. It said there were roughly 1.6 million donations, coming from people in nearly 100 countries."

Foodshare contribute to the success on this day with 394 donations totaling over $71,000, all thanks to your generous support!

Performing Arts Connects with Our Hungry Neighbors

Recently, our hungry neighbors had the opportunity to take center stage thanks to an energetic group of employees from The Bushnell.

During the month of November they collected both monetary donations and non-perishable food to help our hungry neighbors in Greater Hartford.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize this event, and to all those who made donations!

Our Hungry Neighbors Were Seen and Heard

During our Thanksgiving season Foodshare staff members, Bea and Jim received a generous donation from AdTech Systems, an audio-visual tech company in Manchester.

Members from the firm were able to support our hungry neighbors with 23 turkeys and 10 bags of food.

Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance Responds to Turkey Alarm

Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance has been supporting Foodshare's Turkey and Thirty Campaign for many years, and we couldn't be more grateful.

This year's drive, supported by The River 105.9 radio personality Joe Aguiar, collected 249 turkeys for families in need and $3,939 thanks to the generosity of nearby residents!

Foodshare's Turkey and Thirty campaign this year could not have been successful without the support of our local retail partners. Thank you to Big Y, Stop & Shop, ShopRite, Westside Marketplace, and Highland Park Market for your turkey drives and for offering to be collection sites!

Connecting You to Turkey: NBC Connecticut Turkey Drive

NBC Connecticut's "Connecting You to Joy" annual food drive provided Foodshare with $1,038 and 203 turkeys for our hungry neighbors. Thank you NBC Connecticut for supporting our Turkey and 30 campaign!

Glastonbury Town Drives Break the Bank

The Glastonbury community rallied this Thanksgiving, collecting a total of 443 turkeys to ensure hundreds of neighboring families could join the celebration. 

First Church of Christ Congregational raised $3,375 and collected 162 turkeys.
 Stop & Shop collected 281 turkeys along with $9,323. Glastonbury High School hosted a drive bringing in an additional $3,235!

In total the town raised $14,192 -- a $10,000 increase over last year!

Deck the Halls to Feed a Neighbor

George Saponare, a Windsor resident, will be hosting his annual Christmas House Tour on the weekends of December 3-4, and 10-11.

Every year George opens his home for local residents to view eight rooms and two bathrooms decorated with 20 trees, Annalee dolls, Byer's Choice Carolers, Lynn Hanney Santas, and Marc Roberts figures. All visitors are asked to make  a monetary donation or bring a non-perishable item in support of Foodshare.

Visit 234 Kenswick Lane in Windsor between 1-5pm to bring a season of joy to our hungry neighbors!

State Officials Bring in the Birds

In the spirit of the holiday season, employees at the State Office Building hosted a Turkey and Thirty drive to provide our hungry neighbors with a traditional Thanksgiving meal. 

For the 12th year in a row, Joseph Steckel coordinated a turkey drive on behalf of the Department of Public Health in Hartford, collecting 102 turkeys and raised $2,438. Employees at the State Office Building also supported the effort with 119 turkeys and $4,001.

Longtime Foodshare Volunteer Accepts Turkey From BNI

Just recently, one of our most dedicated and loyal volunteers Andrew Stern accepted a turkey donation from the Business Networking International (BNI) chapter of Greater Hartford. The chapter has held a turkey drive in support of our hungry neighbors for 8 years.

The turkey was presented to Andrew from the chapter's president, Andrea Agostinucci. Thanks to their efforts they were successful in collecting 10 turkeys and raising $380.

Free Spirits Lift Spirits

Along with serving up spirits, Back East Brewery, Waypoint Spirits, and Olde Burnside Brewing provided our hungry neighbors with a serving of hope this Thanksgiving.

Thanks to Asylum Hill Congregational Church!

Members of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church greatly expressed their giving spirit, by successfully collecting 100 turkeys and $70 in donations to provide our hungry neighbors with a Thanksgiving meal!

D'esopo Family Teams Up with Brad Davis

Thanks, once again, to the generous D'Esopo Family for hosting a Turkey and Thirty drive to benefit all of our hungry neighbors this Thanksgiving. With a location in Wethersfield and East Hartford, as well as a guest appearance by Brad Davis--host of WDRC's Talk of Connecticut--the group collected a total of 162 turkeys and $4,520 to support our hungry neighbors during the Thanksgiving season!

Turkeys Hit The West End

There was a cheerful and giving spirit in West Hartford recently.

Thanks to Peter Chenette, a long-time friend of Foodshare, the Joseph family-owned ShopRite, and local residents, a total of 62 turkeys and $3,573 was collected to provide our hungry neighbors with a Thanksgiving meal this holiday season!

St. Thomas the Apostle Church Leads by Example

St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Harford collected 90 turkeys for Foodshare. Thank you for feeding our hungry friends and neighbors!

Hartford Talcott Resolution Team Harvests Generosity

The results are in!

The Hartford Talcott Resolution Turkey Wars team raised $1,700 in online and cash donations to purchase turkeys for Foodshare.Thanks to to the amazing support and generosity of  Big Y in Enfield the team was able to to expand their donations to another $700 with $7/off turkey coupons!
