23rd Annual HOG Turkey Run

Please join us on Sunday, October 29th for the 23rd Annual HOG Turkey Run sponsored by the Hartford Harley Owners Group (HOG) and Gengras Harley Davidson!

This innovative turkey drive will kick-off our 2017 Turkey and Thirty Campaign. Interested riders can register at Gengras Harley Davidson in East Hartford from 10-11:45 am.  At 12:00 pm police will escort all riders from Gengras Harley Davidson to Foodshare in Bloomfield followed by lunch at Salute. The cost is one frozen turkey per person or $30 per bike. All checks should be made out to Foodshare.

20th Annual Empty Bowls

The 20th Annual Empty Bowls event is scheduled for Saturday, October 21st from  
11 am to 3 pm.

 A special thank you to Manchester Community College Culinary Arts Center for once again hosting this amazing event!

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. Potters and other craftspeople work with the community to create handcrafted bowls and guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests will get to keep the handcrafted bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

100% of donations will benefit Foodshare!

Travel for Good

Would you like to travel and support Foodshare? On Wednesday, October 25th at 6pm, Jim D & Ann Marie of JAM Travel Planners, LLC will be hosting a meeting to promote thier new travel club, Travel for Good .

 On Saturday, September 16th, Turnabout, a local Rock n' Roll Band will be sponsoring a benefit dance in support of Foodshare.  Doors open at 7:00pm. We hope to see you there!

Dining For a Cause

Looking to support Foodshare and enjoy a night out with family and friends?

This Wednesday, August 30 Ninety Nine Restaurants will partner with The Hartford Harley Owner’s Group (HOG) to host “Dining for a Cause” in support of our hungry neighbors. 15% of each guest’s check will be donated to Foodshare. Guests must print and present the voucher (see below) to their server at the restaurant’s Glastonbury location.

Ford and Foodshare Fight Hunger

Now is the time to purchase that Ford that you have always wanted! 

During the month of August, local Ford dealerships within the Hartford and Tolland region will support our hungry neighbors through their “Drive Against Hunger Campaign”. For every car sold, the dealership will donate $10 to Foodshare.

Future Generation Supports Foodshare

Foodshare's Fundraising Events Specialist, Al Marino, recently had a heartwarming visit to The Master's School in West Simsbury.

Approximately thirty 4th and 5th graders had the opportunity to hear Al speak about Foodshare and the important work we do for our hungry neighbors.



They, in turn, shared the results of their recent Ten Talents Project.

Each student had been given $5 and were asked to brainstorm with family and friends to find ways  to take the $5 and expand it to help our neighbors in need.  Household chores, bake sales and small business ideas were all projects that the students used to make the money grow.  Foodshare was chosen as one of the charities to share in the profits.  Al was thrilled to receive a check from the students for an amazing $1,152, which is enough to help Foodshare provide over 2,800 meals! 

We tip our caps off to Mrs. Blanchard and Mrs. Mancini for teaching the students the importance of sharing and giving back!

Great American Milk Drive Returns!

Across Connecticut, 438,000 of our neighbors struggle to afford enough food, including basic staples like milk.

To help more of our food insecure neighbors access the essential nutrients they need, Price Chopper has partnered with Feeding America once again to host the Great American Milk Drive.

From June 1 to June 30 customers will have the opportunity to make a monetary gift while shopping at their local Price Chopper store.

All money collected will be used to purchase half-gallons of milk, which will be used to help local food banks like  Foodshare put milk on the table for local families. 

Birdies Will Provide Meals

We are pleased to announce that we will be joining in partnership with the 2017 Travelers Championship Birdies for Charity program from June 19-25!

The Birdies for Charity program provides 501(c)(3) organizations in Connecticut the opportunity to raise funds by collecting pledges based on the number of birdies made during the PGA Tour tournament by celebrity professionals .

At the end of the tournament, the number of birdies that are made will be multiplied by the number of pledges. Donors will then receive an invoice. 

Foodshare will be one of many charities, that will receive proceeds from the tournament, along with being eligible for funds through the Bonus Buck Program.

Any organization that raises money will receive a 15% bonus on top of the pledges collected. This incentive will be sponsored by CohnReznick.

Break A Sweat For Foodshare

On Thursday, May 25, Anytime Fitness in Ellington will be hosting Sweat for a Cause in support of our hungry neighbors.

For every donation of four dollars participants will commit to a full minute at one of four exercise stations. Participants can fly solo or team up with friends.

Calling all Globetrotters!

Join JAM Planners, LLC for the “Thistle and Shamrock Tour” September 22 through October 5. 

Interested globetrotters will explore the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, along with Derry and Belfast in Northern Ireland. Cost is $3,450 per person sharing, plus optional group insurance. Single pricing is available upon request.

Cost includes air and land transportation, all breakfasts including day of arrival, all dinners, 20 attractions, as well as hotels in city center. Space is limited.

Macy's Shopping Bag Filled With Meals

An energetic group of employees from Macy's in South Windsor participated in the company’s annual Bag Hunger campaign. Numerous events were planned, including a cookout, chili cook-off, pool tournament, and a TV raffle. Customers were engaged with a concession stand, and had the opportunity to purchase "Bag Hunger" tote bags. Members of the management team also contributed 120 pounds of non-perishable items.

Thanks to all of their efforts, employees successfully raised over $3,000 in support of our hungry neighbors. That money will provide thousands of meals and help connect people with long-term support.

The Foodshare Walk Against Hunger is fun for the entire family, offering on-site food trucks, music, giveaways and more! Bring a few extra dollars so you can be sure to enjoy tasty treats from places like: Bear’s BBQ Smokehouse, Ben & Jerry’s, Cupcake Brake, Mardi Parti, New Haven Pizza Truck, Spuds Your Way, and Yardbird. Kids will enjoy our photo booth and face painting, free of charge!

Jim and Ann Marie Dooley of JAM Travel Planners LLC are partnering with Foodshare to promote ‘Travel for Good,’an opportunity to cross the Atlantic in support of our neighbors in need. A percentage of the profits will benefit Foodshare and our ongoing work to provide food and support to friends here in Greater Hartford!

You can join the Dooley's on their "Thistle and Shamrock Tour to Scotland and Northern Ireland," September 22-October 5, visiting historical towns along the way, including 19 amazing attractions.

Benefiting Agencies Received a Walkthrough

We recently welcomed our Walk benefiting agencies to the Bloomfield facility for a Foodshare Walk Against Hunger orientation, hosted by Al Marino, our Fundraising Events Specialist.

Attendees received information about Walk day, how to recruit and manage their own teams, and tips on fundraising that will benefit their own programs.  

All dollars raised through the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger will benefit the regional food bank and our strong network of 300 partners. Twenty-four of these partners, who signed up in advance, will receive a percentage of the proceeds raised by each walker who designates their organization as the beneficiary.

Meals Were Built Thanks to GE

Staff members from GE Power in Windsor surprised us with a donation of food and funds collected during their "End of the Year Gathering." This company-sponsored event recognizes employees for their accomplishments over the past year. As such, Foodshare would like to take a moment to recognize all those who contributed, providing our hungry neighbors with over 1,770 meals and a warm heart to get through these tough times.

Local Lodge Feeds Our Hungry Neighbors

For the very first time, the Friendship Tuscan Lodge #145, a local fraternity organization in Manchester, presented our Fundraising team with a generous food and monetary donation.

This donation will provide so many of our hungry neighbors with a healthy meal at a time when life is a struggle.

Metropolitan AME Zion Church Show of Support

This month, the Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Hartford, held their Christmas Concert to benefit Foodshare. Our President and CEO, James Arena-DeRosa had the opportunity to speak with attendees about our work, sharing how fellow church members could stay involved in fighting hunger here at home.

Thanks to to their overwhelming generosity, we will be able to provide over 3,000 meals for our hungry neighbors this winter and get people connected with longer-term support through programs like SNAP, school breakfast and lunch programs.

Belcan's Annual Giving Provides Over 4,700 Meals!

Late last week--about 72 hours before Christmas--Belcan, an engineering consultant and staffing solutions company stopped by with a precious gift that will provide over 4,700 meals for our hungry neighbors.

The money was raised through Belcan's annual giving campaign. Staff members choose which charity they would like to support, and this year they selected Foodshare.

The Attorney General Supports Care & Share

James, Attorney General George Jepsen, and fellow staff members

This morning, James Arena-DeRosa, Foodshare's President and CEO accepted a check and 210 lbs. of non-perishable items, from Attorney General George Jepsen. James stopped by the Attorney General's office to express his gratitude towards him and his fellow staff members for successfully collecting over $2,000 to support our work alleviating hunger across Greater Hartford!

The money was raised through a OAG Silent Auction which benefits the Governor's 

Care & Share campaign.
