Food Industry Convoy of Caring

Did you know that 80% of the 12 million pounds of food that Foodshare distributed last year was donated by food companies?

Although many of these companies compete the rest of the year, today they came together to stand with Foodshare in the fight against hunger.  The annual Food Industry Convoy of Caring saw 25 trucks, representing 25 food companies, make the trip from Rocky Hill to Foodshare in Bloomfield to deliver donations of food.  The Convoy of Caring is a part of national Hunger Action Month and is one way Foodshare seeks to recognize the contributions of these companies all year long.

The sight of all the trucks rolling down the highway and then up Woodland Avenue to Foodshare was quite impressive.

Then the challenge for the warehouse staff at Foodshare is to move them all in and out of our loading docks and get them unloaded quickly.  They do it well -- all 25 trucks were unloaded and back on their way well before noon!

The variety and quality of food donated this morning was also impressive.  Here are just a few samples:
