Senate Agriculture Appropriations Bill

Please help us urge Senators Lieberman and Blumenthal to support critical nutrition programs with a quick phone call this week.

Use our toll free number to help us track our impact. Just dial 1-877-698-8228 to be connected directly to both of your Senators and deliver the following message:
  • I urge Senator [Name] to vote for passage of the Senate’s FY2012 Agriculture Appropriations legislation and to oppose any amendments that would strip funding from valuable food assistance programs.
  • Foodshare’s ability to serve greater Hartford is at stake. This bill funds programs such as the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) which are critical to addressing hunger in low-income families all across the state.
  • Hunger is a real problem in Connecticut.  With unemployment stuck above 9% and many families struggling to find work or working for reduced wages, the need for food assistance in our region has risen by 30% over the last two years.
·         Please also sign on to a letter circulated this week by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) asking that SNAP and other low-income programs be protected in any deficit reduction plan.  The deadline for Senators to sign on is October 27th.  (Click here to view the letter.)

Keep up the Pressure through Social Media!
After you call, you can further amplify your voice by posting your message on your Senators’ Facebook pages. Be sure to include your zip code in your message to let them know you are their constituent and simply urge them to vote YES on the FY2012 Agriculture Appropriations bill. We must use all of the channels available to let our elected officials know we are watching their votes closely!
