Student Voices art contest winners

Last night, I was really pleased to recognize the winners of Foodshare's annual Student Voices Against Hunger art contest.  We had over 200 entries in the contest and the winners were chosen through online voting earlier this month.

Our elementary school winner was Lily, a second grader at Duffy Elementary in West Hartford.  Her drawing with the focus on farm fresh eggs was really eye-catching.

The high school art winner was Jonathan, a ninth grader at the Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield, with his stark and moving drawing about what it would be like to live on the $4 a day allotment that SNAP recipients receive for food.

The winning essay was written by Ciera, also a ninth grader at the Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield.  Ciera created a mock journal entry from a family facing the hardships that are so common to families who struggle to survive with medical bills while holding on to home and job.  You can read Ciera's essay here.

The winning video was created by Javanna and Aysha, also ninth graders at the Metropolitan Learning Center.  To view the video, go here.

Congratulations to all of the winners!
