“Last Thursday I had the pleasure of meeting with Carla Squatrito, the owner and founder of Carla’s Pasta in South Windsor. Last September at the Food Industry’s Recognition Breakfast and Convoy of Caring, I had the pleasure of meeting Carla for the first time. While sitting with her that morning, hearing all about the work we do and the tremendous need there is for help in the Hartford Area, she turned to me and asked, 'Is there anything more I can do?'
"Although at the time, I didn’t know her very well, I was stuck by the sincerity in her voice, and suggested I call for an appointment to discuss the opportunities at some time in the near future. Last Thursday was that day! As I entered the company’s reception area I had a chance to see the wall behind the receptionist ‘s desk lined with individually framed pictures of the company employees handsomely framed in wood (just as I would do with pictures of my family). And as I entered Carla’s office I spied the thank you card and picture (that I sent her after the Convoy Breakfast) carefully placed by her computer. I’ve been to many corporate offices and sat in many president’s office as well and have only seen this display of values on few occasions. Right away, even before she had a chance to ask about helping one more time, I knew she genuinely meant what she said back in September, and at some point in time, Carla would be standing by our side helping Foodshare in the community with the same passion and high regard she displays for her company and employees.
"Carla’s Pasta, started in 1968 using her family recipes, has been a supporter of Foodshare since at least 1999 and most recently in 2010 recovered and donated over 36,000 pounds of unsalable but nutritious food to Foodshare!
"Our deepest heartfelt appreciation goes out to Carla and her ‘family’, a Foodshare partner who we can count on for years to come! “
