This year celebrates the 10th Annual East Coast Women’s State Police Charity Softball Tournament. The tournament was first organized in 2001 by Captain Sara Bruso of the Connecticut State Police, with teams from four states participating. Over the years the tournament has successfully grown. As of last year a total of nine states were participants in this tournament: those being Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey,Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and our newest addition being North Carolina.
Each year the host team is selected from the list of participating States. As such, the host team and tournament venue rotates on an annual basis. Since the tournament's inception, the purpose of the event was to donate money and to bring awareness to charities that represent those in need , especially women and children. Connecticut's women Troopers continued this tradition on the 10th Anniversary and raised funds for Foodshare and Komen for a Cure CT.
This year, New Jersey won, for the third time! Connecticut came in second.
Three of the Troopers involved came by Foodshare to present a check to me and Alicia Flynn for half the funds raised - $7,000! Thank you and congratulations to all who took part!
