Even though the House failed to pass its Farm Bill with drastic cuts to SNAP, there’s no reason to think it won’t try again. And, even the more moderate Senate bill still cuts SNAP by $5 billion. Here are 5 reasons to reconsider cuts:
· SNAP is designed to automatically expand in times of recession,
· Higher SNAP spending provides a fiscal stimulus to the economy,
· SNAP spending is projected to decline over the next several years,
· SNAP reduces food insecurity, particularly among vulnerable populations, and
· SNAP benefits are a key work support.
