As many of my regular readers will know, I've been home the last few days recuperating from a foot surgery. I've been using this time to catch up on my reading.
But here's something that's going to surprise those of you who do know me...
One thing I read was Bill O'Reilly's essay in last Sunday's "USA Weekend" and I agree with him when he says, "Helping others in this nation who are struggling isn’t just 'the right thing to do.' It’s the patriotic thing to do."
I was especially both pleased and surprised to read of his commitment to The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and his respect and admiration for Kennedy's passion for civil rights and fighting poverty. Bobby Kennedy was a personal hero of mine and I think of him often, especially in June around the anniversary of his assassination.
And, I was glad to see this, "No matter how busy you are, you can find a way to give back," in his essay. This is a message we deliver every day at Foodshare - no matter who you are, there is a role you can play in ending hunger. The CEO of a food company may have a different role than you do, but if we each do what we can, we can, and will, solve this problem.
