The SNAP Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) program funds a variety of education, training, employment, and related services for SNAP recipients. USDA grants go to state agencies that operate the SNAP program. These programs may be mandatory or voluntary. SNAP E&T funds can support the costs of job search, work experience, education and training programs, support services for participants, and job retention services up to 90 days. The recently enacted Farm Bill provides $200 million to help up to 10 states to operate E & T pilot programs lasting up to three years, aimed at increasing the number of work registrants who obtain unsubsidized employment, increase their earned income and reduce their use of public assistance. These pilots may also include subsidized and unsubsidized employment, and job readiness activities such as mental health services and substance abuse treatment.
