Volunteer groups

Thursday morning was very busy in Foodshare’s Bloomfield facility’s volunteer area, as 21 volunteers sorted and packed for distribution 8,538 pounds of frozen meat!

There were thirteen CIGNA employees at Foodshare for the morning, volunteering their time with this project.  CIGNA employees have a long history of volunteering with Foodshare, especially at our site at the Hartford Regional Market and with the garden they grow on the CIGNA grounds.  It was good to have such a large group here in Bloomfield yesterday!

And there were eight volunteers from the Jewish Federation.  This was their first time at Foodshare and they are now planning to return next month and monthly thereafter.

Foodshare’s goal this year is to double the number of volunteer hours because of the huge growth in donations for fresh produce and frozen meat.  Both projects work well for a group to do together and we have shifts from 8:30 to 11:30 Monday to Friday and 12:30 to 3:30 Monday to Thursday.  We also have some Saturday hours at the Hartford site and Wednesday evening hours at the Bloomfield location.  If you are part of a group – work, school, house of worship, or other organization – that is looking for a volunteer opportunity, please get in touch with us at 860-286-9999.
