As Foodshare has gone into the cities and towns of our region to create Hunger Action Teams (HAT's), we have made a lot of wonderful connections. Our SNAP Outreach Coordinator, Laura Roberts, has been speaking to the Hunger Action Teams about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Laura trains Foodshare volunteers to go out into the towns we serve to help qualified people apply for SNAP. An important consideration is finding the right locations to send our volunteers to help people.
She recently thanked Community Network Builders Jim Palma and Bea Maslowski, along with the HATs they serve for connecting her with new sites for outreach. Some of our newest sites are listed below:
In Vernon, Cornerstone Foundation has set up a site for Thursdays, alternating between mornings and night times to try to reach as many people as possible.
In New Britain, both Community Central (affiliated with CCSU) and CTWorks have set up sites on alternating weeks. In the fall, we will be training the CCSU students to run the Community Central site, and one of them is planned to be interning at our facility in Bloomfield in the SNAP Office in addition to helping with the site.
