SNAP PARTICIPATION DROPS TO LOWEST LEVEL IN 3 YEARS

SNAP participation in March 2014 dropped to levels not seen since August 2011. Over 1.5 million fewer people received SNAP benefits in March than the same month last year. But Connecticut was one of just 8 states where participation rose.  In fact, its 3.9% year-over-year growth (16,000 more recipients) was second in the nation. Over the past five years, the number of SNAP beneficiaries in Connecticut has increased nearly 75%, 6thin the US.
