Heat or not, people need to eat!

With temperatures having reached a record-setting 103 degrees today, Foodshare's drivers and volunteers were still out on the road, working outside, and distributing food to people in need at the Mobile Foodshare sites.  I often remind people that the drivers have the hardest job at Foodshare, but today our dispatcher, Cindy Huk, sent this e-mail reminder to all of us:

In this oppressive heat, a huge thank you to the Foodshare drivers who keep going to get food to those in need.  I can’t help but be proud of them when I hear folks complain how hot it is for them while walking from their air conditioned houses to get into their air conditioned cars and drive to their air conditioned offices.  To compound dealing with the heat this week, one of our mobile trucks broke down.  That meant for 3 days, some mobile distributions had to be done out of a straight truck, which involved much more lifting and running around.  Never once did any driver complain.  They just said, “We do what has to be done.  It’s our job”.

How fortunate we are to have such a terrific bunch!
