C & S Wholesale Grocers helps with Hurricane Irene recovery

While Hurricane Irene headed north towards New England, most organizations were preparing for its eminent arrival.  While most were concerned about their businesses, one of our partners thought not only of protecting its people and supplying its customers, but took steps to help insure that the people in the communities it served were helped as well.  It started Friday morning with a series of e-mails and phone calls from Gina Goff of C&S Whole Grocers.  They thought that they were in a unique position to help Foodshare and we would be better positioned to respond to an emergencies with their help.

On Friday, C&S Wholesale Grocers arranged to donate over 22 pallets of food through their Suffield Distribution Center to Foodshare.  With the help of many at the Suffield plant as well as our dispatcher, Cindy and drivers, Paul and Alan, we sent two trucks to Suffield to pick up their very generous donation of beef stew, peanut butter, packaged tuna, soup, chili, applesauce, and other very nutritious items.  The total donation amounted to over 31,500 pounds of food which could provide as many as 24,000  additional meals!  Thank you Gina, and the rest of the team at C&S, and to Cindy, Paul and Alan for helping this very generous  act happen.
