Volunteers making a difference

Foodshare's Food Sourcing Manager, Ernie Pitti, has a number of volunteers who work with him and help Foodshare stay connected to the many retail food stores in the area.  Just had to share this e-mail that Ernie recently sent out to those volunteers!

Let me start by saying thank you to all of you and now let me explain why.

In the past two weeks we have had these experiences that I want to share with you:

·     First,  the Geissler’s in Somers lost power due to the storm (Irene) but both the meat manager and  manager had the foresight to ask corporate if they could recover, protect and donate meat to Foodshare.  Corporate authorized the donation and we sent our truck there and collected over 2,000 pounds of meat!!

·     Second, a representative of the  Target in New Britain reached out to tell us that they have a group there who will not only volunteer this November and December but will start a regular monthly commitment of groups of employees to volunteer in 2012.

I have to think that our relationships with both of these organizations have improved significantly and have resulted in these two incidents because in great part your participation  in both the Donor Brochure and Volunteer Retail Pick-up Programs.  And just maybe there’s more good news to come in the future!

Ernie
