According to USDA’s Economic Research Service, SNAP/Food Stamp recipients spend an average of 54 minutes a day shopping, longer than SNAP-eligible people not on the program as well those with higher incomes. Higher-income people spent 58 minutes a day in meal preparation and cleanup, while 64 percent of surveyed SNAP/Food Stamp recipients engaged in 75 minutes of meal preparation and cleanup per day. It’s thought that SNAP/Food Stamp participants may be cooking more meals from scratch, and spend more of their meal time at home.
