Volunteers picking up food donations

Betty, one of Foodshare's reliable and regular volunteers, approached me at an event we were both at this morning, to tell me about her recent experience.

Betty is part of our volunteer retail pick-up program.  Volunteers go directly to stores and pick up food that might otherwise be discarded and then take it to a local pantry or kitchen.  We place all of these volunteers in pairs, so there will be two vehicles, just in case it's a large amount of food.

Betty told me that this week, when she went to the Target in Enfield, they had 750 pounds of food to donate!  Betty and her partner had to make two trips, with two cars, between Target and the Enfield Food Shelf to get it all there!

Thanks to all the donors and all of the volunteers who make this possible.  Through their efforts, Foodshare was able to provide food for an additional 700,000 meals last year!
