Paula Siebers, our Food Donations Coordinator, is the person who trains, organizes, and matches volunteers with stores to pick up food that the store might otherwise discard. She sent me this e-mail this morning about the newest store brought on board the program:
"Yesterday we launched PriceRite in Windsor. This store was not currently on the Meat the Need program- so this is all very new to the staff there.
"The entire management team there, Tom Vizzo, store manager; Allister, John, John, Edwin and Melissa (department managers), are all enthusiastic about starting this and had food well marked and ready for volunteer Jennifer yesterday.
"Kim Alteri in PriceRite’s corporate office was very helpful d in facilitating starting the start at this location.
"We were still in need of a Tuesday volunteer until I received an email from Jennifer:
Hi Paula,
All went well at Price Rite today. No meat was pulled because Melissa couldn't get to it and she was not there today but they promised to do it tomorrow. The store managers, actually said, " we'll do better" as I pulled my cart past them. I told them we were so happy with what they had given so far and that is was really appreciated. Alister was extremely helpful and kind; they all were.
There were comments made about Tuesday and I would like to offer myself for Tuesdays too until you find someone, if you need it. I just hate to think of produce going bad that could be used.
“Cleary this has been a group effort!
“The agencies receiving the food from this store are Community Solutions, St. Monica’s Pantry and St. Francis Hospital Pantry.”
Great job, Paula, Jennifer, and the whole team at PriceRite!
