Red Mill partners with Ocean State Job Lot to donate

I love shopping at Ocean State Job Lot - it's always an adventure and you never know what you might find there.  When I was in there over the weekend, the check-out clerk asked me if I would like to make a donation to Foodshare.  I couldn't very well say "no," could I?

In case you were wondering what happens with those register donations, Ocean State turns the funds into food by negotiating good prices with the companies they deal with.

When Red Mill (also a favorite of mine!) heard about how Ocean State had been able to donate the entire six truckloads of cereal they bought from Kellogg's at a great price, they decided to donate a tractor-trailer load of their own products for Ocean State to deliver to food banks.

Today, Ocean State delivered nearly 17,000 pounds of the food from Red Mill, which will help Foodshare provide about 12,700 meals to people in need.

Those $1 and $5 donations made at the register really add up, and in this case, even multiply!  Thank you to Ocean State, to Red Mill, and to all of the generous customers who have donated and continue to donate this holiday season!
