A convoy of 10 tractor trailer trucks loaded with 400,000 lbs of nutritious, shelf-stable food (the equivalent of 333,330 meals) departed Ocean State Job Lot’s warehouse in Rhode Island this morning to deliver to 10 food banks in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. This is the first installment of a 60-tractor trailer truckload donation totaling $1.25 million for 2013!
Foodshare was among 10 food regional banks receiving a delivery. The truck that came to Foodshare had 28,000 pounds of non-perishable food, including pasta, marinara sauce, macaroni and cheese, and some canned fruits and vegetables. Funds for Ocean State Job Lot to purchase the food direct from brand-name manufacturers were donated at the register by OSJL customers in seven states over the 2012 Thanksgiving and Christmas season and matched by Job Lot.
Foodshare Executive Vice President Christine O'Rourke is interviewed by WFSB Channel 3 about the donation. |
