Volunteerism

Yesterday, at the Greater Hartford Women's Conference, I was pleased to serve on a panel on volunteerism with (l to r) Erin Fletcher from the Urban Alliance, Jessica Rich from The Walker Group, Paula Gilberto from United Way, and the panel moderator, Pamela Papay from Newman's Own Foundation.

The panel presented to a large audience of women (and a few men) on how to find a volunteer job that fits your interests and schedule, how to organize groups to volunteer, and what questions to ask of the organization where you want to volunteer.

With more than 3,600 volunteers last year, Foodshare could not begin to do our work of distributing food to people in need without volunteer involvement.  So, it was great to be part of this panel promoting volunteerism throughout our community.  We know that volunteers are the heart and soul of our communities and women are often leading the way in those volunteer efforts to build a better community!
