One of the cool things about Foodshare's Walk Against Hunger is that each person who walks can raise money for the anti-hunger organization of their choice!
Seventeen area food pantries and community kitchens, along with End Hunger CT! and Foodshare benefit from this event. And if a participant's favorite food pantry is not on the existing list, they can even write them in!
In addition to being a great fundraising tool for these local programs, the Walk Against Hunger provides an opportunity for them to educate the broader community about their programs. One way they can do that is by setting up a booth on Walk day. And our Presenting Sponsor, The Hartford, actually organizes a scavenger hunt to encourage all participants to visit each of their booths!
Agencies that raised money at this year's Walk Against Hunger included: Channel 3 Kids Camp, Chrysalis Center Freshplace, Farmington Food Pantry, Friendship Service Center of New Britain, Gifts of Love, Hands on Hartford, Hebron Interfaith Human Services, Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church Food Pantry, House of Bread, Loaves and Fishes Ministries, Saint Francis Hospital Emergency Food Bank, Saint Monica's Episcopal Church, St. Vincent de Paul of Middletown, Sodexho EHPS Backpacker's Program, The Northend Church of Christ, United Labor Agency, and the Windsor Food and Fuel Bank.
