Price Rite stores began participating in our Volunteer Retail Pick up Program in Summer 2012. Five days a week the department managers and store receiver set aside food that is perfectly edible, but no longer sellable. This food is then picked up by a Foodshare volunteer who takes it directly to one of our partner programs. In just six months Price Rite was able to donate the equivalent of over 43,000 meals that would have otherwise been thrown out.

Last week Gaye Sgamboti (Food Donations Coordinator) and Paula Siebers (Food Sourcing Manager) had the opportunity to present the Price Rite stores in our area with Certificates of Appreciation. District Manager- Pat Stramaglia, and HR Manager- Kim Altieri, thought it would be a great idea if we presented these Certificates directly to the employees that make it happen. Employee Appreciation Day provided the perfect setting.

Thank you Price Rite for your very generous donations and for taking the time to set aside this food for hungry people in our community.
We have many more stores who would like to donate food, but we lack the volunteers to make it happen. Read more about the Volunteer Retail Pick up Program on our website to find out how you can be involved in this very rewarding work.
