Three grocery stores in Minnesota will participate in a pilot program titled SNAP+, which provides a $5 coupon, redeemable at a later date, to SNAP recipients who use their EBT card to purchase $5 or more in fresh fruits and vegetables. The program, which runs through September 30, is designed to encourage low-income Minnesotans to eat more healthy foods. A federal bonus paid to the state for increasing SNAP access will help pay for the program. Stores in areas with high poverty rates, health disparities and a demonstrated need for residents to eat healthier were chosen for the pilot program.
