Meet our new Warehouse Manager

Name: Richard (Rich) Hiscox

Your role at Foodshare: Warehouse Manager, to coordinate the efficient and timely movement of product through the warehouse and into the hands of those who need it.

How long have you been with Foodshare? 3+ months

Hobbies: Coaching girls fastpitch softball, our 5 Grandchildren

Why I do what I do: The need is great and growing. As Foodshare has grown to attempt to accommodate the need efficiency is needed to assure the largest possible assistance reaches our clients.

Most recent accomplishment: Laid out the design for the new Reclamation area to allow us to more than double our throughput of material given a steady source of material and volunteers.

A personal/professional goal: To leave every situation better than I found it.

Last read: Pocket copy of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution.

What was the hardest thing you’ve had to learn at Foodshare? Need hides in plain sight. The scope of that need is something far greater than I would have ever imagined or believed.

What has changed the most at Foodshare in your time here? The size and layout of usable space.

If you could be, or do, anything else – what would it be? Study/Teach U.S. History so the youth would hear the positives this great nation has brought forth here and abroad, rather than the blame America for all the ills of the world that has become the norm in our woefully inadequate education system. We are not perfect, but there needs to be a balance and actions must be viewed, and understood, through the prism of the times they were made.

What one word would you use to describe yourself? Reliable.

What are you most proud of?I take great pride in my family. To see our daughters, and their children, grow and mature is a wonderful, albeit humbling, process.

What is your favorite drink?  Why?Pepsi, because it is sweet and bubbly.

What is your favorite movie, or book, or song? One won’t do but the Star Spangled Banner, Stairway to Heaven, and Amazing Grace would be as good musically as The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings would be in literature, and Stand by Me, The Godfather, and Blazing Saddles would be theatrically.

Anne Frank once said that in spite of everything, she believed people were basically good. Do you agree or disagree? Why? Yes, emphatically. To believe anything else would diminish the quality and outlook on life.
