A new U.S. Census Bureau report shows that the number of households with children under 18 who had at least one unemployed parent rose by 33%, from 2.4 million to 3.2 million, between 2005 and 2011. In some states, the rise was much sharper. Connecticut’s increase appears to be one of the greatest (65%); only Nevada (148%), Hawaii (95%), and Florida (93%) were larger (but the CT sample is too small to be considered definitive).
