Foodshare receives energy efficiency grant

If you have been to Foodshare's Bloomfield distribution center, you may know that the building is a LEED certified "green building." so naturally, when we begain planning for an expansion we were bringing the same energy saving ideas into our plans.

It paid off this week when CL&P’s Energy Conscious Blueprint program delivered a check for $20,665. This was a payment for installation of five energy efficiency measures, including:

· High efficiency HVAC units

· High efficiency lighting design

· Lighting controls (occupancy sensors)

· High efficiency freezer and cooler controls

· A demand control ventilation system in the truck garage that is activated by CO2 sensors.

According to the CL&P over the life of the measures Foodshare installed, we will save 753,542 kWh of electricity which is equivalent to:

· 381,813 pounds of coal not burned, OR

· 31,386 gallons of oil not burned

And will help improve air quality in CT by avoiding 817,080 pounds of CO2 emissions, as well as other harmful environmental pollutants.
