Ending child hunger in our communities

The Hunger Action Teams that Foodshare has been organizing in local communities in recent years have usually focused first on childhood hunger and what alternate approaches the local community could take to make sure all of the children were adequately fed.

And, it's working!

In 2012, 1,116 youth received a total of 85,210 meals through Hunger Action Team supported Backpack Programs and Summer Food Service Program sites.  And in 2013, those numbers jumped to 1,568 youth receiving 113,757 meals through backpacks and summer meals.  These numbers are with just six Hunger Action Teams so far working on summer meals and four organizing backpack programs!

As we work toward having a Hunger Action Team actively working in every community in greater Hartford, we hope to achieve the goal of ending child hunger in the region!
