Marlborough Church starts "Drive-Thru Cafe"
Rev. Bob Faulhaber, Senior Pastor at Marlborough Congregational Church recently told us how his congregation is responding to the rising need in their community.
The church has begun a new program in partnership with the Marlborough Foodbank called the "Drive-Thru Cafe".
Rev. Faulhaber writes, "In short, families in our church help to create enough food to serve 50 hot, ready to go meals on the last Sunday of the month [which is when families that receive SNAP or WIC are running low on funds and food] and we serve them "drive-thru" style to families who receive tickets to the program. They simply drive up to the back door of our kitchen, hand the tickets they've received from the foodbank over to our greeter and we hand over that many meals in "to go" containers with a hearty "bon appetit and God bless".
"We even deliver a number of the meals to the local Senior Housing Complex for those that depend on town transportation to get around. The menu of our very first program on Sept. 29th was meatloaf, mashed potatoes & gravy, broccoli, dinner rolls and chocolate chip cookies. It was low cost to us, low impact for the volunteers and high nutritional value for the recipients. We hope to encourage other faith based organizations to consider this model."
What a great way to engage the members of the church and serve the community! I agree that other faith based organizations should consider this model!
