Doug Rauch, the former president of Trader Joe’s, is opening a new market early next year in Dorchester, Mass., that will prepare, repackage, and sell at deeply discounted prices the perfectly edible produce that otherwise ends up in the trash. The project is called the Daily Table. Rauch wants to bring affordable nutrition to underserved people in cities. He will try to use the 40% percent of food that is wasted either because it is thrown out by grocers because of the sell-by dates or is discarded by growers because it’s cosmetically blemished.

I'm really curious what people think about this, since this will be food that is traditionally donated to food banks like Foodshare and distributed to low-income people free of charge.
