Turkey drive comes up short

Thank you to everyone who has helped Foodshare in its push to ensure that every family in need has a turkey on their table this Thanksgiving.

Despite all of your donations and all of our volunteers' hard work, the drive has come up short.  Donations Monday evening were much less than was needed and Foodshare has  fewer than half the turkeys needed to meet Tuesday’s distribution appointments.

At this time we are making plans to cut distributions to local food pantries in half for Tuesday.  We know what a huge challenge this will pose for these community groups for they have scheduled pick-up appointments with needy families, and now when those families show up, there will only be turkeys for half of them.

But, unfortunately, we can only distribute turkeys if we have them and right now we are short by 2,033 turkeys.

We hope to close some of this gap before noon on Tuesday - you can help by donating one or more turkeys directly at Foodshare, 450 Woodland Avenue, Bloomfield before noon today.

It is truly a situation in which every turkey will count.
