UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS END FOR 26,000 IN CONNECTICUT

The emergency unemployment compensation program ended December 28th, shutting off benefits for 1.3 million Americans immediately—and millions more over the next year. The severity of the cuts will vary greatly by state depending on state size and, most importantly, their economies. In Connecticut, 26,000 people will lose their benefits 3 days after Christmas, and 85,000 more will not receive the benefits they would have received in 2014 if Congress had continued the program. Under the extended benefits program, Connecticut workers could collect for up to 66 weeks; now they can collect for only 26 weeks.
