1,000 hours of volunteer service

Laureen Basta has been volunteering since 2008 and it was an honor to recognize her last week for reaching 1,000 hours of volunteer service.  She is a regular Wednesday volunteer in the reclamation area, averaging 6-7 hours a week, and she works a split shift--during the morning, she evaluates and sorts food and non-food item; during the afternoon, she sorts, evaluates, labels frozen meats.

The volume of frozen meat that is donated to Foodshare has doubled in recent months, from an average of 7,000 pounds a week, to now 13-15,000 pounds per week.  This meat needs to be sorted, and that requires more volunteer help.   Laureen and husband Lou, are both very dedicated and supportive volunteers and continue to be available to help wherever Foodshare needs it.

Laureen is also great when there are young people volunteering.  She demonstrates great leadership by guiding them in the volunteer work and by sharing points of good work ethics and responsibilities.
