School is out - letting families know about summer food

The Lieutenant Governor and I share a laugh...
It was great to have Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc take part in today's "summer food blitz day" sponsored by End Hunger CT! and the East Hartford Hunger Action Team.  The kick off was held at the New Covenant United Methodist Church in East Hartford.

The goal of these blitz days, which are being held around the state, is to help make local families aware of the summer food program, which provides free meals to children who are at risk of hunger while school is out in the summer.

For locations around the state you can go to the State Department of Education website or call 211 from any phone, 24 hours a day!

Foodshare staffer Bea Maslowski (far left) and Pastor Gary Richards (far right)
gather with some of the volunteers working on today's summer food blitz.

You can help make sure kids have access to meals in the summer and year-round. Become an e-advocate and support legislation that encourages growth of these programs! Or learn more about how you can be a part of our Hunger Action Team efforts.
