Wellness contest results in donation

This past spring, Diversified Group Brokerage started a wellness contest, an 80-day pedometer challenge to "Walk the Caribbean." One of their clients, Carling Technologies, took them up on the challenge, and each corporation formed a team who wore pedometers and tracked their steps via a website which monitored their virtual progress in walking around all the Caribbean Islands.

Each corporation donated $2,000, with the winner getting to choose the charity to receive the donation. Carling Technologies "stomped all over" Diversified, according to Charlie Soleau, Diversified's Executive VP. The Carling team walked over 100,000 steps to win the contest, and they chose Foodshare as the beneficiary of the donation!

Charlie, Alison Searles (Market Development Specialist), and Kristi Maltz (Health Promotion Coordinator) came out to Foodshare for the Diversified team, while Paul Soucy (Sr VP Finance), Jayra Andrade (Marketing Manager), and Eileen Spirito (HR Manager) were out to represent Carling, and to rub it in a little bit over Diversified. Foodshare's Director of Development Wendy Kohn accepted the check last Friday, and she and Mark Cherrington, Foodshare's Director of Communications, gave both teams a tour of the warehouse to show how the donation will be used.

We are so grateful to Diversified Group Brokerage and Carling Technologies for helping feed hungry neighbors through such a fun and friendly competition that promotes wellness!  This is a great example of how companies can put the "fun" in fundraising and have a win-win activity, for their employees and for the community.
