Enfield summer food program teaches nutrition to kids and parents

On Monday, July 7th, Michelle Mattia, a Dietician, from ShopRite in Enfield, demonstrated "Fun with Fruits" as part of the activities at Enfield's Summer Lunch Bunch.  The recipe for Caramelized Bananas is from a SNAP cookbook and the cost is only 35 cents per serving.

The Lunch Bunch provides activities and Iiformation to families every weekday from 11:00-11:50 a.m. and lunch is served daily from 12:00-12:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Parish Hall located at 64 Pearl Street.  The Summer Lunch Bunch, in its 5th year, will run through Friday August 22nd.  There is no cost and no registration for activities or meals for children 18 and under.  Funding allows for free parent meals to also be served daily at this location, in addition to the children's meals.

The Summer Lunch Bunch is coordinated by ERfC in collaboration with the Enfield Hunger Action Team(EHAT), individuals, businesses and community agencies.

How can you help make sure kids get healthy meals in the summer?
  • If you are in the Enfield area, sign up to volunteer for the Lunch Bunch!
  • A different town?  Check to see if your town has a summer food program for kids.  If not, ask your town offiicals why not!
  • Want to join a Hunger Action Team and work on issues like this in your community?  Get in touch with Jim or Bea to find out if there is already a Team in your town and if not, what steps we can help you take to start one!
