Foodshare staff garden

Foodshare’s on-site community garden is growing like a weed… or rather, like a garden! J Many staff have been out in the garden, weeding and watering and now harvesting.

Miranda Muro, our Grants Manager, gives the Japanese eggplant a drink on a hot day. The heirloom tomatoes are sprawling everywhere! Collards are still continuing to produce. What’s your favorite collard recipe or Japanese eggplant recipe? We like to share recipes with clients at Mobile Foodshare sites, and on our recipe website for agencies, so share your favorite simple recipes!

The cucumber plants are growing so fast, they might just swallow up Miranda while she’s watering the peppers.

We had a few donated watermelon starts, and we’re so excited to actually have some lovely watermelons growing. There are about 6 of the mini-watermelons, they are so cute!

While this garden is primarily for our staff's use, we will certainly be donating any surplus for distribution to people in need.  Did you know that nearly half of the food that Foodshare distributes is fresh produce?   Do you have a garden that generates surplus you would like to donate?  You can certainly bring that produce to either Foodshare's Bloomfield or Hartford locations, but you can also donate to a program right in your town.
