The John G. Martin Foundation has
awarded a $30,000 grant to the campaign to fund a project to insulate the roof
and paint the ceiling at Foodshare’s facility at the Hartford Regional Market.
The Market facility is where we process 6.5 million pounds of donated
produce each year. But the building is 60 years old, and the roof is thin,
drafty, and peeling. By insulating and repainting the ceiling, we will be able
to reduce our monthly energy costs by at least 40 percent, and in turn channel
more resources into direct hunger-relief activities for many years to come. The
project will also significantly extend the life of our refrigeration units,
enhance the comfort and productivity of staff and volunteers, and improve food
safety.
