RECORD NUMBER OF HOMELESS STUDENTS

U.S. Department of Education data shows that 1.3 million elementary and secondary school students were homeless in 2013, an 8% increase from 2012 and a record number. While 75% were living with a friend or relative, 16% were living in homeless shelters, six% in hotels or motels, and 3% had no shelter. The numbers don’t include homeless infants, toddlers, and young children enrolled in preschool.
