End Hunger
Connecticut’s 2014 CT School Breakfast Report Card provides a close look at
where Connecticut and its communities stand in providing breakfast to students,
while highlighting successful implementation techniques and resources for
advocates looking to support school breakfast in the state. The group found more schools are participating in the School
Breakfast Program in Connecticut and across the nation. However, as in
the past 9 years, Connecticut remains last in the nation in the percentage of
schools that participate in both in the School Breakfast and Lunch Programs.
Only 68.3% of Connecticut schools participating in the NSLP also participate in
the SBP. Nationally, 89.8% of schools provide both programs. Only 46.9%
of students in Connecticut on free and reduced-price meal plans who eat school
lunch also eat school breakfast as compared to 51.9% nationally.
