Thanksgiving is a fun, crazy and amazing time here at
Foodshare.
For those of you who might not know how the whole thing
works – it all started over a month ago when our Agency Relations team sent
notices to our partner agencies letting them know that the online turkey
request system was now open. These
agencies have until next week to get in all of their requests. We will then scour the system for duplicate
requests, cancel out any of those, and announce our official turkey goal on
Thursday, November 13.
Our Thanksgiving drives begin a little earlier than usual
this year- we have some on Saturday and Sunday November 15/16. This is great because it will hopefully give
us a little bit of a leg-up on the turkey collection!
Thanksgiving officially kicks off on Tuesday, November 18
with Turkey Tuesday at CityPlace in Hartford with Bank of America. WDRC host Brad Davis hosts a live broadcast
from the turkey drive and Foodshare volunteers man the Turkey Hotline where
people can call in and donate turkeys from the comfort of their own homes
between 6 and 10am.
November 19-24 is filled with tons of turkey drives – visit
our website for a complete list. All of
these drives are being organized by our incredibly dedicated volunteers who
come back year after year to help us meet our goal!
Our volunteers bring these turkeys in and we send them back
out to our partner agencies as fast as you can say “gobble, gobble”!
With any luck, we will have met our goal by Tuesday November
25 and our staff can head home early on Wednesday to have a little bit of extra
time with their families. But, if we
haven’t met the goal, you can bet we will do everything in our power to make
sure that every single family on our list gets a bird for their Thanksgiving
table.
