US CHILD POVERTY RATE HIGHEST IN 20 YEARS

Child poverty in America is at its highest point in 20 years, putting millions of children at increased risk of injuries, infant mortality, and premature death, according to a policy analysis published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics.

As the worst recession since the Great Depression ends, 25% of children still don’t have enough food to eat, 7 million kids still don’t have health insurance, and one child dies every seven hours from abuse or neglect the analysis says. The authors call child poverty the nation’s worst threat to children’s health.
