Community Court, Avid Supporter of Foodshare

Foodshare proudly attended an award ceremony in Hartford this week to recognize Justice Raymond R. Norko (left) and Hartford's Community Court.  The court supports Foodshare with volunteers each week, helping to process thousands of pounds of food for the pantries and other programs we serve. In just the last two years more than 9,500 volunteer hours were completed by Community Court members!

Hartford's Community Court has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice as a Mentor Court, one of only four across the country to be singled out for its exceptional work. Rather than clogging the court system with low level "quality of life" crimes like vandalism or public intoxication, service hours give back to their communities, allowing courts  to focus on more serious crimes and resulting in an astounding appearance rate of more than 90%.
