Retail Pick-up Volunteer Tracks Efforts

Long-time Retail Pick-up volunteer Wally Banzhaf visits ShopRite Canton every Wednesday to gather food donations that he packs, weighs and then delivers to Gifts of Love in Avon. Every pick-up gets reported to and tracked by Feeding America, but Wally keeps his own spreadsheet throughout the year. It comes complete with graphs and daily averages. It is amazing to see what it all adds up to by year’s end.

In 2014, Wally, with the help of volunteer Helen Steven or Mattie Banzhaf, picked up and delivered 18,752 pounds of food! That’s more than 15,600 meals worth of food that went to people in the community. And that’s just from pick-ups on Wednesdays. Thank you to all the store owners and staff, as well as the volunteers, participating in Foodshare’s Retail Pick-up Program. Your efforts every day accomplish so much and keep volunteers like Wally crunching numbers.

Join Wally and so many others to help your neighbors receive the food they need by volunteering for our Retail Pick-Up Program!
