For people living on the economic edge, little things can make a big difference. Consider clipping coupons. For most of us, that is a relatively casual thing to do—why not save some money if you can? But for someone living in poverty and relying on SNAP benefits, getting something for half-price can be crucial.
With that in mind, one of Foodshare’s interns, Susan Manser, who is a graduate student working on her master’s in public health at Post University, set up a coupon training session for 15 clients of Family Life Education in Hartford. The training, which took place on January 23, helped clients learn how to get the most out of the coupon system. Manser also set up a Facebook group for participants, where they can ask questions and share photos of their couponing victories. The goal is to have this become a train-the-trainers arrangement and spread the training to many other partner programs.
