One of the essential features of each of our Mobile Foodshare trucks is the refrigeration unit that lets us keep perishable fruits and vegetables, dairy, and meat at the ideal temperature. And Carrier Transicold, a division of UTC, just made a big difference in our ability to get more food to more people. They donated one of their Supra 660 truck refrigerator units to Foodshare to add to one of our trucks. Gene Warner, Director of Operations at Foodshare, is especially happy about this $10,000 grant. "Upgrading our existing equipment will allow us to distribute a wider variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to hungry families," he said. The new unit will let us control the temperature even more accurately, meaning less waste and more food.
"As a leader in refrigeration technologies that advance the global food supply chain, we recognize the critical importance of expanding and improving the cold chain to help reduce food waste and, ultimately, feed more people," said David Appel, the president of Carrier Transcold and Refrigeration Systems. "Foodshare's mission aligns with this vision, and to help them achieve it, we are pleased to provide a Supra 660 truck unit."
Of course the people receiving the food won't know anything about the refrigeration unit, but you can be sure they will be very grateful that it's there when they sit down to dinner and enjoy healthy, nutritious food.
