Public Allies provide invaluable support

Here at Foodshare, so much of the work we do depends on an army of volunteers. In some cases we also partner with national volunteer service programs that connect us with wonderfully skilled individuals who are passionately committed to our mission.

Sophia Vasylyk is one of these individuals -- a Public Ally who has been working at Foodshare since last summer. Sophia helps to educate many of our hungry neighbors on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by visiting registration sites and assisting them with the application process. She also supports Foodshare's Hunger Action Teams (HAT) through data collection and analysis of meal programs. The valuable information gathered informs future initiatives to serve communities and help Foodshare better understand the conditions of poverty in our region.

Sarah Santora, our Community Involvement Manager notes the important contributions Sophia has made so far, "Her support of our SNAP outreach program has been so valuable and Sophia has even risen to the task of filling in for our Coordinator when needed. The volunteers are very complimentary about working with Sophia. Things are going very well."

Volunteers like Sophia are the lifeblood of this organization, so we thank her for her time, her passion and her dedication!
