“Imagine a World without Hunger” was the theme for this year’s Three Square Meals event in North Kingston, RI. The big event kicked off with Foodshare’s President and CEO James Arena-DeRosa having dinner with the Founder/CEO of Ocean State Job Lot, Alan Perlman. James learned about Ocean State’s commitment to ending hunger and their support to Foodbanks throughout New England. They also discussed possible ways Ocean State could assist us with the items we bulk purchase on occasion. This is especially important as oftentimes some of the nutritious foods our local pantries desire are in short supply. James also had the opportunity to hear from Sally Sampson, the editor of Chop Chop – a kids' guide to nutritious cooking.
After the program the Ocean State trucks headed out for their respective food banks. The transportation costs to Foodshare were sponsored by Arbella Insurance. A local subsidiary of Arbella, Bearingstar Insurance added to the occasion with a donation of $1000 that day!
We look forward to this event each year as Ocean State Job Lot has been a valued partner for over ten years, donating enough food to generate almost 1.8 million meals in that time.
